About Camp Jimbelung
Camp Jimbelung is a 3 day therapeutic day camp led by Occupational Therapists and Speech Language Pathologists, for children aged 5-12. The aim of the camp is to provide children with a typical camp experience using activities such as rock-climbing, low ropes courses, scavenger hunts, life on the farm and nature play while providing extra support to work on areas of challenge such as:
- Social interactions
- Managing emotions
- Whole body coordination
Specific camp programs have been developed for ages 5-6 years, 7-8 years, 8-9 years, and 10-12 years, making sure that experiences, activities, learning, and reflection frameworks are optimised for age and developmental stages.
YELLOW GROUP: 5-6 years old – 10 campers – 9:30am to 2:30pm
GREEN GROUP: 7-8 years old – 10 campers – 9:00am – 2:30pm
RED GROUP: 8-9 years old – 10 campers – attend from 9am to 3pm
BLUE GROUP: 10-12 years old – 10 campers – attend from 9am to 3pm
Our groups have a high ratio of leaders to children to help us facilitate in the moment coaching and support for our campers.
The Yellow group is led by an Occupational Therapist and a Speech Language Pathologist, 2-3 Occupational Therapy or Speech Language Pathology students, as well as an Outdoor Recreation teacher during the activities.
Our Green, Red and Blue groups of ten campers each will be led by 2-3 Occupational Therapists or Speech Language Pathologists, 3 Occupational Therapy or Speech Language Pathology students, as well as an Outdoor Recreation teacher during the activities.
Camp Jimbelung is run by Lara and Brian Moes and the team of Occupational Therapists and Speech Therapists from Early Start Australia’s Ashmore, Coomera and Springfield clinics. Lara has over 20 years’ experience as an Occupational Therapist and Brian is an experienced Outdoor Education Teacher with over 13 years’ experience working in this field of education.
Camp Jimbelung’s name has been chosen to honour the people of the Yugambeh nation on whose land our camp is held. Jimbelung is the Yugambeh word for ‘friend’.
